mid October we took a wonderful trip to D.C. Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia + Tennessee. while in D.C. we spent a great deal of time walking. not having ever been i was mistakenly under the impression that like in the movies, everything capitol related is just a close jaunt from the one end of the reflecting pool to the other, it is not. from the white house to the capitol it is a mere 1.2 miles, its 2.0 miles from the capitol to the jefferson memorial and 1.5 from the jefferson to the lincoln (besides hitting the monuments near the capitol, we drove to Roosevelt Island and walked those trails as well) Neither of us is a fitbit fan, but suffice to say we were doing anywhere from 5-7 miles a day taking into account all the other walking; to the metro, the zoo, hiking up and down king street through old town and all back and forth around dc checking out the various architecture and Smithsonian offerings, my favorite being the sackler and freer galleries. We also hiked Old Rag in the Shenandoah National Park.
Here are a few of the highlights from the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Freer Gallery of Art, Hirshorn and the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden.
