friday we are taking the kids on a field trip to houston to check out the multitude of ceramic exhibits around the town.  i actually downloaded the app for the phone but then the print copy made it into my hands and its hard to break such perfectly lovely, ingrained habits.   glaze scheduled for Tuesday- hoping to have some whites out for possible further testing or use and 3 pieces are waiting to just be done.

finished emmanual cooper’s contemporary ceramics (from 2007) i enjoyed it although there wasn’t a section focusing on the figure/figurine/ (which i think one could argue has come just as far from the traditions academic, artistic and that marriage which so often defines fine art)  the sections he did have were concise, there seemed to be a sprinkling of old blood and new, which was respectful and refreshing

never enough

got home from a day of sxsw fun last night and found an acceptance letter from america’s clay fest (its the revamped/renamed feats of clay that made lincoln, ca. so famous,  okay so maybe just on the map in the ceramics and brick world) its always nice to come home to good news.  so i’ll be sending work out there next month.  the venue is at blue line gallery in roseville, which is also the host of ‘ceramacom’ a little later in the year.  and of course next week is NCECA in houston.

was getting groceries this morning and noticed they had fresh cut daffodils so of course a few sprigs made it to my cart.  once home the real decision was which vase… ended up going with the small bud vase (made by patrick veerkamp) – its a crackle slip with a celadon glaze and salt fired. the small hint of glassy color in the vase in contrast to the bright yellow of the buds really compliment each other.

when the mice are away

its spring break and the time to work freely non stop day and night is here.  of course i found myself with a complete and utter mental block as to where to begin, started a few forms but nothing that stood out and said, “kate, finish me” rather than dwell i spent the last couple of days throwing pots for old salty and thinking about the words i shall choose.  i also took a little stock of the studio and decided some spring cleaning was in order.cue tom waits the part you throw away.

The first post

its fitting i spent today in the studio, since the evening ended with news that the website was ready for me to start adding images/text.  both remind of me working at various .com’s putting the html into the template so when the viewer came across the page it would be just like in magazines. and i remember why i quit my day job and went back to graduate school .  however tonight its back to sketches and plotting what is to come next from the studio, this week is meant for work.
